5 Things to Consider When Searching for An Accessible Wedding Venue

by | Wedding, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Receptions, Weddings

The good news is that most venues these days have measures in place to ensure that they are as inclusive as they can be. However, if you need to a wedding venue that goes the extra mile on your big day, I have compiled a list of subjects you should broach.

Ease of Access

It is important to consider the ease of access of the venue. If you or your guests struggle with mobility it is key to ensure that there are ramps or lifts in place to accommodate those that struggle with the stairs and that the doorways and corridors are wide enough if any of your guests are wheelchair users.

Parking

Parking is a factor that you will definitely need to think about when selecting your venue. For those who have problem with distances, it is wise to ask the venue about disabled parking or about reserving spaces for those that have mobility issues. If this isn’t possible perhaps discuss if there is an alterative method of entering the venue.

Facilities

If your venue provides accommodation there are a few questions you could benefit from asking to make sure that it is truly an accessible space for you and your guests.

These include:

  • Are the bathrooms equipped with shower chairs and support rails?
  • Is there an emergency cord in case your guests require assistance?
  • Do the bedrooms have bedrails or adjustable beds?

By finding the answers to these questions your big day can be stress free and more enjoyable, knowing that both you and your guests are taken care of.

Assistance

When it comes to your big day it is important that you and your guests feel at their best and not have to worry about a thing. Sometimes that requires a little bit of assistance. In this case talking to the venue is an absolute must. Find out if there is a designated person you can contact if required, if they have chaperones that can support you with certain troublesome aspects if you require it. Some venues go out of their way to provide these services or will help in other ways to make your wedding day as perfect as they can.

On the Move

Some locations pride themselves on architectural features such as grand staircases. Although these can provide some stunning settings on your big day, especially for photographs, it can create accessibility issues for both you and or your guests if anyone finds it hard to get around. It is important to address these issues with your venue early on to ensure you don’t run into problems on your big day. Find out if there is a lift that can be used instead of the stairs, if there are ramps or grab rails available.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions of the venue and to discuss your needs. It is your big day and it is their job to ensure that it runs as smoothly as possible.
