Your loved one’s funeral should be a unique and personal celebration of their life. It is important that you commemorate the event in a way that is meaningful to both you and them.
In this article I have put together several ideas to help you make this celebration of life truly special.
Include A Memory Board:
Including a memory board is a wonderful way for friends and family to reminisce about their loved one. You can use a large pinboard to create a collection of photographs to display at the event or you can ask attendees to write down their favourite memories and add them to the board.
After the ceremony, these can be collected and stored in a photo album or a scrapbook as a way of memorialising the person who has passed away.
Fireworks
If you want to make the event truly memorable a fireworks display can be a perfect tribute to the person that you have lost. There is also the option of having the cremation ashes placed inside fireworks. Although this method is not for everyone, it is definitely a farewell that no one will forget.
It is also important to make sure that you follow all the safety instructions if you choose to undertake this idea or have a professional team on hand to help you.
Seed Cards
Seed cards are an environmentally friendly way to memorialise your loved one. This is also a fantastic idea if they were eco-conscious or an avid gardener. The seed card can be personalised and contain seeds for each guest to grow their own plant as a memorial to the person whom they have lost. There are several options to choose from, but the most common solution is forget-me-nots as these are easy to grow and maintain. They are also a classic symbol of remembrance.
Another popular option is tree seedlings as these provide a much longer lasting tribute.
Add Colour
It has become increasingly popular for friends and family to cast off the traditional black attire during a funeral ceremony and opt to wear something brighter and more colourful instead. You can even request that attendees wear the favourite colour of your loved one in honour of their memory.
Alternatively, there is always the option to hand out flowers in your loved one’s favourite colours so that they can be placed upon the coffin.
Literary Keepsakes
If your loved one was a bibliophile, you may find that they have left an extensive collection of books. These could make excellent keepsakes if you decide to hand them out at the ceremony. By doing this you are giving the attendees a creative memento to remember your loved one by.
