Weddings can be a minefield of family politics, often being one of the biggest stressors when it comes to the organisation of your wedding. With the other female members of the wedding, such as the bridesmaids and the mother of the bride, all having prominent roles it’s no wonder that the mother of the groom may feel left out.
Here are some ideas on how to make the mother of the groom feel more involved with the festivities.
Get the Family Together
On some occasions a wedding will be the first time that both sides of the bride and groom’s family get an opportunity to meet. Why not break the ice prior to the wedding by asking the mother of the groom to organise a meal or a small party to introduce both sides off the family?
This way your new, larger family can become firm friends before the wedding, leaving all of the stranger awkwardness out in the cold so it doesn’t put a dampener on your big day.
Many Hands Make Light Work
Planning a wedding can be a huge undertaking and often brides don’t have the first clue where to start. It can be overwhelming to be faced with so many choices. This is where the mother of the groom can lend a hand.
Selecting vendors or selecting the perfect place for your wedding can be tough, why not ask your finance’s mother to help scout out some locations, or check reviews and prices for vendors that you have been considering. This will take a weight off your shoulders and help your fiancé’s mother to feel more involved in the planning process.
People Management
Keeping track of invites and RSVPs can be a pain when you have both sides of the family to consider, especially when you are trying to plan everything else. It can be a good idea to get the mother of the groom involved in this process. Her role in the groom’s family will be invaluable, and she can take anyone to task if they are taking too long to get back to you without you having to stress about chasing them yourself.
All Hands on Deck
After all this planning, you want to be able to enjoy your big day as much you can but that doesn’t mean that things can’t go wrong. One way of managing the potential for stress is by allocating a person to be in charge of operations if a problem does happen to crop up. If they are willing, this can be the mother of the groom. If an issue does arise whilst you are in the process of getting ready for your big day, they can help to deal with it long before it even reaches your ears. This removes a potentially big pressure from you whilst helping your soon to be husband’s mother feel more instrumental to the wedding.
